The Manoir

"Very Stylish, everything you imagine in your dreams! The best house we have ever stayed in.”
5 out of 5

We stayed in the Manior this summer for 2 weeks. It was a real priveledge to enjoy such a stylish, comfortable house with wonderful rural views on all sides. Add in the well maintained salt water swimming pool(not a red eye in sight) and a variety of animals to enjoy and you have the makings of a truly wonderful holiday in an area of France with a wealth of activities available and many places of historic interest to enjoy. The owners very helpful & kind. We travel to france every year and this was by far the the most beautiful house we have ever stayed in. Excellent value.

"A stunning Manor house set in a beautiful location where you can relax and unwind”
5 out of 5

Chris and Jacky Holton have beautifully restored and modernised this traditional Manoir, creating a stunning home within which you can relax and unwind, from subtle decor to modern facilities you simply ease into rural french life the minute you walk through the door.
As hosts the Holtons are approachable, supportive and friendly providing unrivaled service whilst respecting personal privacy. We have found their advice and knowledge of the region invaluable, helping us to experience Dorgogne at it's best.

This was our 3rd visit returning to a warm welcome and leaving as friends, we have already booked our return to Rigal in 2013 only interupted next year by the olympics!
We have no hesitation of recommending Rigal to family and friends alike, a real gem which once experienced will leave you wanting more.

"Exceeded our expectations, beautifully designed French manoir.”
5 out of 5

The Manoir at Rigal exceeded our expectations in every way. The photographs of the property looked lovely but on arrival we hadn't anticipated the wonderful spaciousness of the property and attention to detail of the design. It was a real privilege to stay in such a beautiful house and it was perfect for our family group of three generations. The situation of the ample gardens around the house was great as it meant that we could follow the sun or always find some shade during the day with a great choice of well planned outside space. There were tables for dining both to the front and back of the house and a lovely swinging garden seat towards the side perfect for relaxing with a book.
The pool was well equipped with a nice shaded area and comfortable loungers and provided a great meeting point for us with the family staying in the gite. The highlight of the week for our son Jack (11) was making friends with the children of the other family and with the delightful Holton girls. The pool was a perfect distance from the house which meant that we always retained our privacy at the Manoir, but could be sociable when we wanted to, which was great as Jack was having to do lots of revision for school exams and needed to be quiet to work but could also have fun swimming, playing table tennis and jumping on the trampoline in between times.
Jack also loved all the animals and delighted in feeding the pigs and visiting the guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens etc. His favourite animal was a gorgeous little brown calf which he nicknamed Moo, that skipped around in the field behind the house - all in all an idyllic pastoral scene!
The interior of the house was just beautiful, fitted to the highest possible standards. I absolutely loved the kitchen and the bathrooms and it has given us lots of ideas for our own house.
Chris and Jacky could not have been more thoughtful hosts, my father loves drawing and they kindly arranged for him to visit a friend of theirs in the village with my mother so that he could sketch the lovely old castle from their garden whilst enjoying a chat and a cup of coffee - he couldn't have been happier.
My parents who are keen walkers also very much enjoyed the walks directly from the house.
We had very nice trips to local places of interest such as Monpazier and other lovely old market towns - the highlight of our week probably being a trip to see the prehistoric cave paintings at Font de Gaume, (necessary to book ahead of the holiday). They were amazing.
We very much hope to return to the Manoir, it is a very special place.

Hope all is going well at the beautiful Manoir at Rigal. Our wonderful holiday is already becoming a dim memory - we truly had one of the best holidays we have ever had - it was so relaxing and the fact that the kids had such fun and got on with Alice and Eliza was a huge bonus you were both very kind to accommodate them as much as you did
K Terry from Singapore stayed 3 weeks in the Manoir June/July 2010 and are coming back this summer.

Rigal Gite

“My little piece of heaven.. totally relaxing and unspoilt.”
5 out of 5

This is the second time we have stayed at Le Rigal and we would come back again. Our hosts are wonderful and are there if you need them and the accomodation is a home from home. Extremely comfortable and spotless. So much to do locally and amenities are only a short drive away. You really can dip into the French way of life. The children can play freely and the swimming pool is very well maintained and clean. Reluctant to recommend to too many people or we might not get our holiday next time!

“A lovely gite and a lovely location”
5 out of 5

This was a lovely family friendly trip to a gite which was full of character and with all amenities for a young family. Everything that was need was supplied. The area is very beautiful and there are plenty of things to see and do. The pool and the playground area kept the children well occupied.

"The Gite at Le Rigal, great location, facilities and hosts”
4 out of 5

Chris, Jackie, Alice and Eliza are the perfect hosts, their Gite blends traditional and contemporary accomodation set in the stunning Dordogne countryside, this was our second visit to Rigal and it did not disappoint, the facilities are well appointed with over 100 acres of farmland to explore. Wildlife is on your doorstep and opportunities for you to experience french rural life.
For those who wish to explore the region you have a centrally located base with easy access to many stunning venues, restruants and atractions; whether you want adrenalin filled quad bike tours, go-karts or a visit to the stunning water park or the gentle exploration of the valleys and rivers by canoe, Rigal offers easy access to all.

We have already booked our 2011 return visit!!

“Just what we hoped for a holiday gite”
5 out of 5

From the website onwards everything about this holiday gite was special.Nothing was too much trouble and Chris and Jacky were the perfect hosts. There when needed but not too intrusive. Our three children (2,6,and9) had the time of their life visiting local attractions swimming in the perfect pool or playing at Swallows and Amazons in the woods.I would recommend this gite as a perfect base to holiday in this part of France. In a nice quite area but near to everthing you would need. All in all a wonderful place run by wonderful people

“Rural idyll with farmyard animals”
5 out of 5

You may think you have been to a beautiful destination but visit Le Rigal and see a true rural idyll. Whether you stay in the gite or the manoir you will be pleased with the standard of the accommodation. The gite may look small but is huge inside. The location is peaceful, with lovely views across the fields and birds you do not see in England. I saw a Hoopoe. Chris and Jacky are the owners and are the most helpful, friendly, welcoming and informative hosts. If you have children they may like to help feed the animals - pigs, guinea pigs, chickens, doves, quails, rabbits and horses, oh and Misty the Border collie who just loves a pat. There are many places of interest to visit close by, with lots of markets where the locals buy their fruit and vegetables, freshly picked that morning, but also stalls with many trinkets and curios. There are vineyards and chateaux and caves and all sorts of cafes and restaurants to sit and watch the world go by. If you like golf there is a good 9 hole course close by, with lots of ponds to test your skills.

“Wonderful Winter Retreat - Exactly what we wanted.”
5 out of 5

We were very lucky as we were the only guests throughout the whole week. We arrived to a fully decorated gite - Christmas decorations looked wonderful. Lots of logs for the fire for those wintery nights.

The gite is fantastic in many ways. It is clean, very well equipped and set in a wonderful location - surrounded by hills and woods with the local village in sight.

The owners made sure that we had everything that we needed and at the same time, respected our need to have some privacy.

It was wonderful and just what we wanted.

"Fantastic home, lovely owners, top-rate experience!!”
5 out of 5

The Manoir at Rigal was the best house rental of our lives (and we'e done a bunch). Chris and Jacky, the owners, have impeccable taste. Every bedroom was lovely, the ensuite baths were terrific and we absolutely loved cooking in the modern kitchen. From the crystal chandeliers to the great mattresses and linens, no detail was less than excellent. In addition, the location was rural and quiet but a short drive to visit the center of local villages and fantastic for cycling. We will be returning next year for an even longer visit because we simply can't imagine topping our time at Rigal.

Thank you Chris and Jacky:

Nan & Henry Fischer
